How We Go About Resolving Your Roof Leak Around Your Chimney

Below is the typical process we use to resolve your roof leak around your chimney.

Inspecting the Chimney Flashing

The chimney flashing will require a thorough inspection. Flashing is the metallic material which is installed to help direct water down and away from the chimney itself and prevent any form of leaks. If there are any forms of damage, corrosion, or an improper installation; we’ll ensure everything is repaired and resolved to the highest degree.

Removing Deteriorated Sealant

If there are signs of deteriorated sealant, we’ll be sure to repair and replace said sealant with a fresh coating to reduce the risk of any further damage after we’ve thoroughly inspected all associated areas of the roof itself.

Apply Fresh Sealant

Applying a fresh coating of sealant will allow the weather-resistant qualities to once again be restored to their former functionality. Water should not be able to seep through the waterproofed sealant material at this point.

Secure Any Loose Flashing with Extra Masonry Screws

If there happens to be any loose flashing along the chimney, we’ll be sure to secure it with the use of masonry screws. This will prevent any further loosening or movement which could lead to leaks.

Cover Exposed Screw Heads with Sealant

From there, we will cover the masonry screws with extra sealant. This creates a true watertight seal and prevents any damage from occurring in the form of leaks leading to rot, mold, or infrastructure issues.

Upon Sealant Drying, Test Area with Water Flow

After the sealant has fully cured, we always test the area to ensure no leaks remain and everything is good to go.

If Leaking Persists, Identify Compromised Areas & Resolve Issues

If there’s any leaking which persists, we re-examine all aspects of your roof leak around your chimney with a thorough lookover. We will usually find the root of the problem and go the extra mile to ensure all is resolved.
